It never ends….
It’s Distraction City.
Text (threads) - Instagram - Twitter - Email - Youtube - Netflix -LinkedIn - Facebook
It’s constant.
This ties back to last week’s newsletter about being aware of what content you’re consuming.
In case you missed it - I cut out all content that’s not related to what I’m doing.
Initially - very boring.
Now - it’s still kinda boring, but man am I focused!
In High School I was diagnosed with A.D.D. (this is the 90’s). Back then I could get distracted by a piece of paper with no lines on it. A blank page.
Literally, is that a bird? anything.
I found over time… if I’m interested in something, I’m ‘kinda’ good at focusing on it.
But I still need some queues to get me to SIT Down and Focus.
This newsletter for example. When i’m in it, I’m in it.
But to start it. To start anything…
It’s HARD. It’s a BATTLE.
So… if I want to accomplish anything, I need rules.
I call it: TDT
‘Cause it’s like a wrestling move on my attention.
TDT
T = TIMER
I set a timer to 33:33 ‘cause I’ve ‘seen this on the internet’ multiple times as being some magical amount of time to focus, but really the actual time doesn’t matter.
It’s arbitrary.
D = Do Not Disturb
My Phone is on Do Not Disturb. Desktop Apps are off.
T = To Do List
I stick to the List. Each Box is a 33:33 focused time slot.
It’s a Battle Royale between me and myself.
I need the tools to win.
FOCUS IS EVERYTHING.
I hope with whatever you’re working on…
You have your own TDT Special that works.
I’m off to the Catskills….
L’Chaim,
Jonny G.
